How to write engaging blog posts

Hey folks,

How’s your week been?

Mine has been blinding busy.

But it’s still been a great one. Grateful for life, friends, my boss at work, and family.

Now back to why you all signed up for this!

A checklist for writing engaging blog posts

So, continuing from last week’s piece on making life easier for your editor, here’s a checklist for writing blog posts that engage your readers:

Before you start writing:

  • What problem will your blog post solve for the reader?

  • Are you trying to solve too many problems in one article?

When you finally start writing:

  • Does your introduction empathize with your reader?

  • Is your first sentence easy to read?

  • Does it encourage the reader to scroll down and read on?

  • Have you shared enough tips to solve the problem you’ll be tackling in the post?

  • Have you used specific examples that illustrate your problem and make your blog post more colorful?

  • Do your subheads flow logically?

  • Can the reader get a sense of what the blog post is all about by skimming through your subheads?

  • Does your writing have rhythm and energy?

  • Are you playing around with short and long sentences?

  • Are you using the “imperative form” to make your writing dance and sound alive? (What does imperative mean?)

  • Do your closing paragraphs wrap things up, share overarching patterns and provide a call-to-action?

ProTip: Pick three of them and practice till they become second nature. Then pick another three. And so on.

Sounds good?

What I’m thinking about?

When last did you hear about Game of Thrones? A few years ago, everyone was yapping about it. The public memory is short.

So, stop worrying about what they think or say. Find your path and own it.
