What's about the latest Google update
Hi folks,
This email is lateeeeeeee.
I really need to find a time that works for both me and you all considering my switch in time-zones.
Would you mind reading it early Saturday morning?
Sort of like your weekend read 😀
Well, let me know your thoughts.
Today, we’ll be talking about Google’s passage ranking
Towards the end of last year, the search giant had hinted it would soon be able to identify key sections of a web page or blog post to better understand how relevant the page is to the user or a search query.
You can read more here
According to Google, this would improve 7% of search queries globally.
Last week, ‘passage ranking’ went live for those in the US, and it’s expected to get to more countries (in English) in the near future.
Now, what does this mean for content strategists and marketers?
Simply put - it’ll help you rank for sections of your article/blog post even if the overall article is talking about a broader or more difficult keyword.
Let me try to explain with an example I shared with a friend last night.
He has a site where you can get beautiful customized gifts
You can check it out here
If he has a post on “gifts for men”, which has a keyword difficulty score of 62, it might be hard for him to rank for that keyword considering he is just starting out.
However, if within that post, he has a section on “Valentine’s day gifts for men” with a keyword difficulty score of 18 – passage ranking gives him the opportunity of ranking for that smaller topic, even if the blog post isn’t about Valentine.
That way, anyone searching for '“Valentine’s day gifts for men” can visit his page.
How do you take advantage of this?
Create well-written H2s and H3s
The content within your sections needs to be well-written and contain information gain (remember this 🤷🏽♂️)

All the best folks. And please share with any of your friends/colleagues who might find this useful 🙏🏾
My biggest takeaway this week 🚀
Plot carefully, but don’t overthink. Have a bias for action.
