What's the ideal length of a blog post?
Helloooooo,
Happy Friday.
Good week everyone?
Would you mind not asking me how mine was? Because…
But it is what it is.
Today, we’ll be talking about the ideal length of a blog post
Popular answer: 1500 - 2000 words.
Me: It depends on your topic and audience.
No doubt, longer articles seem to rank better on Google’s SERPs.
And going by the Global State of Content Marketing Report 2020 by Semrush, that seems to be the case.
Some highlights of the report:
the average blog post is between 900 - 1200 words (great news for people like me)
7000+ word blog posts generate 4X more traffic than the average 1200-word blog post
Blog posts between 1500-2000 words generate 26% more traffic than the average 1200-word blog post
However, it isn’t all doom and gloom.
Here’s why…
I would imagine that a 5000 - 7000+ word blog post will take days to write compared to a 1000-word article.
You also run the risk of keyword stuffing, boring writing, long-winded sentences, and fluff. All because you are trying to hit the 7000-word mark and drive 4X traffic.
So instead of wasting all that time slaving to finish one article, spend that time writing seven articles of average length.
Written well, these shorter blog posts together might drive twice as much traffic or more than one gigantic article.
Long articles are great. But if your audience is looking to tackle specific problems, you probably don’t need a mammoth article to answer your readers’ queries.
Plus, remember, Google wants to provide value for its users—not word counts.
Content tools
A content tool I discovered this week
Sometimes, we find that amazing GIF we would love to share on LinkedIn. But the darn platform doesn’t allow us to upload GIFs. So what to do?
Use the EZGIF converter to convert your GIF to an MP4. Upload, and voila, you have your GIF on LinkedIn.
Not Enough Writers
We hung out with Paul David of Literal Humans, and it was all sorts of amazing. Probably the best way to describe how we all felt after the session was this sentence by one of our community members:
“Paul is a literal human.”
He brought the name of his agency to life in 60 minutes.
If you missed the session and would like the recording, hit the reply button, and I’ll send it your way.
