How to Write a Poem: 8 Fundamentals for Writing Poetry

Hello 👋

How’s everyone?

Looks like a lot of us love the new format.

This week has been one of those kamikaze-like weeks.

Dodo started Ji-Jitsu classes.

Then came down with a cold.

Then my wife. Then Ronan.

I am currently gulping down my second 1000mg Vit C. tablet.

Pray for me!

Today, let’s talk writing product stories

In today’s B2B world, product-led growth (or PLG as they love to call it) seems to be taking off.

Or its here to stay as its proponents are wont to say.

Look, I’m not a big believer in all these fancy acronyms. Call me old school, but I believe that most of these fancy business methodologies B2B marketers throw around are rehashed versions of the four Ps.

But that doesn't mean we shouldn’t make bread as content writers.

And so, if someone hires you to write a long-form content piece around their product, here’s a nifty framework you can use to build your outline:

  • First off, what’s the problem the product solves for the prospect/customer?

  • Next, who’s the “big bad wolf” the product fights against?

  • Here’s where it gets slightly meaty. How does the product defeat this enemy you called out earlier? How does it solve the problem the “big bad wolf” creates? What happens if they don’t use your product and allow the 🐺 to have its way?

  • What are the benefits the product provides to the prospect? Can you paint a vivid image of what life looks like if the prospect does things your way?

  • What does the future look like if prospects use the product?

Answer all these questions and you have the outline of a solid thought leadership piece laid out the way my Mom (God rest her soul) used to set up the Christmas rice spread.

If you read one thing

This beautiful piece of long-form prose by Homer titled Delicacy will leave you feeling all ethereal.

A content tool I discovered this week

And here’s a Google Docs link that also includes high-paying pitching opportunities

All the best folks. Please share with any of your friends/colleagues who might find this useful. 🙏🏾

My biggest takeaway this week 🚀

What I’m thinking about

The world rewards you for the value you created, not how hard you worked or the time spent.

3 interesting facts to impress your friends

  • England is the only country in the world that searches ‘weather’ more than ‘porn’.

  • M&M stands for Mars and Murrie, the surnames of the inventors, Forrest Mars and Bruce Murrie.

  • Honey doesn't spoil. You could feasibly eat 3000-year-old honey.
