How to create magnetic sub-headlines

Your H2s are your sub-headlines. For most readers, they act as a guide. Like some sort of ladder, they can use to descend your blog post.

Hi there,

Greetings from the rainy city of Lagos!

It’s been an amazing week for me, some stuff I had been waiting for finally came through.

No worries, I’ll share the news with you soon enough.

Today, I’ll be talking about your H2s.

Your H2s are your sub-headlines.

For most readers, they act as a guide.

Like some sort of ladder, they can use to descend your blog post.

For you the writer, it’s the glue you use to stitch your piece together.

So how do you make these sub-heads captivating?

  1. Curiosity

Curiosity is a great way to keep readers glued to your blog post. Even if they are scanning through, once they see something that piques their curiosity, they’ll make a mental note to come back.

And that’s what you want!

  1. Surprise

Most readers assume your post won't tell them anything they haven't heard 100 times before. I mean, that's what usually happens, right?

You're reading different articles about a topic, and they all seem to be saying the same thing. This is where the surprise tactic comes in handy.

You want to make them sit up and think, "Woah, didn’t see that coming.”

  1. Emotion

Most of what we read online is cold and flat. If you can make your readers feel something with your subheads, they keep coming back.

Why?

It sows a seed in their mind, and they can’t stop thinking about it till they open up that article and read it.

Please, make sure you don’t disappoint them with flat, lame writing.

  1. Personality

This is a tad close to introducing emotions into your writing.

This might not work for every brand, but if you can pull this off - Just Do It.

Here’s an example of one I came across some weeks ago - “Make no promises or learn to shut your pie-hole.”

Jeez!!!

What have I been up to all week?
