3-2-1 Fridays: Why your business model dictates your SEO strategy, using modifiers, and a free starter SEO toolkit
Hey friend, welcome to today’s issue of Efikó. This newsletter by Dozie Anyaegbunam helps you make smarter decisions in content marketing and life. Anyway, hello, it’s good to see you. You’re doing great 😀
Oh, hello, how are you’ll today?
Tomorrow is my little sister’s wedding. So today has been a bit busy.
More like trying to get work out of the way so that I can give the family all the time in the world.
Asides from that, the week has been excellent. I have been able to catch up with old friends.
And that’s part of the reason today’s newsletter is late 🙈
Now, to today’s business of content.
3 Things I Learned About SEO This Week
i.
SEO strategy isn’t a one-size fits all strategy. And if you’re a freelancer, you don’t want to make this mistake when executing an SEO strategy for a client.
Why? Because good SEO is dependent on the business model of your client.
Here’s what I mean…
If you were working on an SEO strategy for an eCommerce client, you would be better off building a strategy around technical SEO than content creation.
An eCommerce business often operates a marketplace business model. So, while a blog is excellent, you are likely to get better results by focusing on the following:
Indexing
Schema markups
Site speed
Crawling
Internal linking
Page/image load speed
A large number of product pages/inventory means it might be foolhardy to focus on executing an organic SEO strategy at the expense of a technical SEO strategy.
But if you were building an SEO strategy for a B2B SaaS client, you can get away with ignoring technical SEO. As the client probably doesn’t have enough pages (>500).
And focus on an organic SEO strategy.
This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do both (if you can). But if you need to choose one, pick the path that suits the client’s business model.
ii.
Modifiers are your best friend. Using the proper modifiers on your title tags can do wonders for your CTRs.
You’ll agree that “The easiest tactic to rank on Google” is more appealing than “1 way to rank on the Google SERPs.”
Worried they sound clickbaity? It’s only clickbait if you don’t deliver on the promise.
Here are a couple of modifiers I am currently experimenting with:

Try this out, and let me know what works for you. I am hoping to crowdsource this data point.

But to win at SEO, you need tools. Yes, you do. Here’s a free starter SEO toolkit:
Keyword research tools: Answer The Public; Keyword Generator; Google Trends.
On-page SEO tools: Google Search Console; Ahref Webmaster; Greenflare SEO Crawler.
Web speed optimization tools: PageSpeed Insights; GTMetrix; Web Page Test.
Structured data tools: Schema Markup Validator; Google’s Rich Results Test.
There are tons of others. But these should give you a headstart.

1 Book Recommendation
Prove It by Melanie Diezel is one of the books I’ll be reading over the Christmas holidays. Amazon describes the book best, “in a crowded consumer courtroom full of shady advertisers all claiming to be the best, the fastest, the most caring, your brand is literally on trial―and that means you better deliver the proof.”

Be good out there. If you can't be good, be careful
